Welcome to the Sixth Form Student Area

  • UCAS Timelines
It is our recommendation that every student submits a UCAS application, even if they are not completely sure about attending university, so that they have a choice of destination on their final results day.

We begin work on UCAS preparation in the Summer Term of Year 12 under the guidance of form tutors and students’ Head of Year.

Students intending to apply for either Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Medicine or the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge should have their application by the end of the Summer term, ready for final tweaks and an earlier submission date of 15th October 2023.

All other applications are due in by 25th January 2024, however, we aim to get almost every application in by November 2023 to allow students to receive offers competitively and early on in the process.

  • Important information re exams, mocks & exam timetables

    Mock Examinations

    Year 12

Year 12 UCAS Examinations (mock examinations that determine UCAS predicted grades) will take place from 12th June 2023.

    Year 13

The final set of mock examinations for Year 13 will take place from 27th February 2023. In advance of these mock exams please find the following information:

    1. Exam Wraparound Timetable

This contains a full exam timetable which has already been shared with students, as well as a programme of additional Breakfast Boosters and Excellence Hours hosted by subject teachers to ensure that students are as prepared as they can be, and as confident as they can be, heading into this final set of mock exams.

    • Understanding and building their own ambitions for the future through exposure to a wide range of careers and industries

    • Allowing students to explore courses at universities, including example personal statements, grade requirements, different universities and wider reading

    • Helping students explore universities in the UK, Europe and America with guidance on the differing application processes

    •  A live apprenticeship tracker to allow students to see apprenticeship opportunities available in real time and then apply

    • Supporting the development of a UCAS personal statement and CV

Sixth Form Dress Code

The John Roan Sixth Form has a dress code rather than a uniform. Our Sixth Form students are role models to students in younger years and in addition to their behaviour, attitude and maturity are also expected to set an example through their professional attire and the way in which they present themselves.

Details regarding the Sixth Form dress code are as follows:

  • Formal dress (e.g., suits, ties etc) is encouraged

  • Lanyards must be worn at all times

  • Trousers must be smart and tailored but not tight

  • Blouse, shirt, or smart top (for boys this must have a collar)

  • Skirts and dresses may be worn just above the knee but must not reveal underwear

  • Dark-coloured smart shoes in (real or mock) leather, patent leather or suede

  • Hair must be a natural colour

  • Smart crew, v or turtleneck jumpers are permitted

  • Students must wear a formal jacket (such as a suit jacket or blazer) for use when moving through the building and in assemblies. This may be removed in lessons.
